On September 7, LA Unified Superintendent Austin Beutner visited the homes of the Partnership’s Jordan High School students to promote the importance of school attendance as part of his “Attendance Matters Day” initiative. He was able to speak to parents to get a better understanding of the factors that prohibit students to arrive at school on time and be present. Carlos Montes, Principal of Jordan High School says, “It’s not as easy as get them there, sit them down […] There are other things at play, and it’s our job to find out what those needs are and to better address them.” Mr. Montes is setting a high bar at Jordan High School by envisioning nothing less than 100 percent student attendance, graduation, and students going to college and universities.
