On January 2, 2019, the Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, wrote an opinion piece in the Houston Chronicle detailing the impact that schools and education have on children. He stresses that every child should have access to high-quality schools and education in their own neighborhoods, which results in thriving communities. In it, Mayor Turner also highlights the work the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools has done within the LA Unified School District, and how a similar model can be applied at the Houston Independent School District.
