Barriers to Equitable Course Access for High School Multilingual Learners

We recently published “Barriers to Equitable Course Access for High School Multilingual Learners: A Partnership For Los Angeles Schools Case Study,” highlighting findings and recommendations in response to a course enrollment analysis we conducted on four high schools within our network. The publication addresses how current policy and practices impact course enrollment options available to multilingual learner (MLL) students. Our recommendations offer ways to address the barriers to equitable course enrollment for MLLs, including revisiting the effectiveness of the current English Language Development (ELD) curriculum, prioritizing MLL enrollment with qualified teachers equipped to support students with language development, and offering priority enrollment in extended learning opportunities for MLL students.
